Subject: Please Oppose the Faster Labor Contracts Act

As a constituent and member of the warehousing and logistics industry, I urge you to oppose the Faster Labor Contracts Act (FLCA).

While backers present the bill as a way to speed up labor negotiations, the FLCA would fundamentally alter the collective bargaining process by allowing federal arbitrators to impose binding labor contracts when employers and newly certified unions fail to reach agreement within an arbitrary timeline.

Under the FLCA, employers and newly certified unions would have just 120 days to reach a first contract before federal arbitrators are empowered to dictate wages, benefits, workplace rules, scheduling policies, and other terms of employment for up to two years. These arbitrators would have sweeping authority to impose a contract without any requirement that the terms be economically sustainable, operationally feasible, or supported by the employees affected by them.

Successful labor agreements are built through good-faith negotiations between workers and employers who understand the unique needs of their workplace. The FLCA undermines that process by replacing voluntary agreement with government-imposed contracts that could dictate wages, benefits, workplace policies, and other employment terms for years.

The legislation would also deny workers the opportunity to vote on the contract governing their employment. Additionally, it provides employers with little recourse to challenge contract terms that may be economically unrealistic or operationally unworkable. Arbitrators would have broad authority to impose terms without being accountable for the long-term impact on workers, employers, or local economies.

America's labor laws should promote voluntary agreements reached through meaningful negotiations, not contracts dictated by outside officials with little understanding of an industry or a company's operations, workforce, or financial realities.

I respectfully urge you to oppose the Faster Labor Contracts Act and protect the collective bargaining process from unnecessary government intervention.
